Board Votes on Ocean Desalination
On November 17, the South Coast Water District Board of Directors voted to take the next step in the planning process for a possible ocean desalination plant at Doheny State Park.
- An Environmental Impact Report is currently in development and estimated to be completed by late spring or early summer 2018.
- The Board of Directors did not decide the size of a desalination plant.
- The Board of Directors did not decide the financing of a desalination plant.
- The board decided on a district-owned delivery option and obtaining a proposal for specialized legal services to develop documents for a design-build-operate contract with a concentration on hybrid financial approaches.
